Our Story
Her pain became a purpose. His legacy became a mission.
The loss of a loved one changes everything.
For one mother, the journey began with the loss of her own father during childhood.
Years later, tragedy struck again when she lost her son to gun violence. His passing left a family grieving and a young daughter facing life without her father.
Understanding the emotional and practical challenges that follow such a loss, she made a decision. Her pain would not be the end of the story. It would become the beginning of a mission to help other families.
Inspired by her book, The City That Betrayed My Son, she created It Takes a Village to Raise a Child, bringing together mental health professionals, community volunteers, businesses, and compassionate individuals who believe healing requires connection, understanding, and support.
Our Mission
To raise mental health awareness, educate families about trauma and grief, provide practical coping and healing resources, connect individuals with counseling and community services, and support children and families whose lives have been changed by violence, loss, and the absence of a parent.
Our Vision
A community where no grieving child or family feels forgotten, no one is forced to grieve in silence, and every family has access to compassionate support and resources that encourage healing.
